The Piper's DoJo School

Founded in 2008, the Piper's DoJo is a school for learning the Bagpipes and Drums that presents a fresh new learning method. In a community setting, aspiring pipers of all ages and stages can drop in during any of our hours of operation for individual coaching, and specialized classes.

The idea behind our learning model is very similar to a Karate DoJo or a Gym. Members pay a monthly fee to receive unlimited visits to our Guided Practice Sessions, as well as great pricing on Individual Lessons and Piobiareachd Classes. During their time at the DoJo, they receive coaching from our world-renowned instructors.

For beginner bagpipers, we offer a free class, Piping 101, to offer a “crash course” on the Bagpipe with no commitment necessary. Once that course is over you can move on to Piping 201 - a very affordable continuation course that will seamlessly transport you to the point where you are ready for a full-fledged membership.

The DoJo is located in Albany, NY (Click Here for map).

DoJo Programs:

Guided Practice Sessions:

Guided Practice Sessions are basically drop-in times for you to come play your pipes and get feedback from our DoJo instructors. We have plenty of space to spread out, so the possibilities are endless! One-on-one time, group work, and just plain hard practice sessions are commonly experienced during these sessions!

You are allowed unlimited Guided Practice Sessions with your monthly membership (fees listed here).

Individual Lessons

Individual lessons are a great way to get some very focused feedback by an instructor. Lessons are available in half-hour blocks (fees listed here), and can be booked by emailing andrew@pipersdojo.com. Book as long as you need. Lessons are scheduled on a first-come, first serve basis.

Right now, lessons are scheduled for Friday afternoons, but this is subject to change based on demand and student feedback. Just let us know what your schedule is like, and we’ll try to accommodate!

Piobaireachd Classes

Our Mission Statement:

To create a school that promotes well-rounded learning of the bagpipe as a musical instrument in an exciting community environment.

A Well-rounded learning of the bagpipe

The school will succeed in teaching pupils how to approach the bagpipe as a musical instrument. It will provide an open-ended curriculum that allows each player to explore his/her own interests. Ie, The school will not be associated with any band/solo agenda or conform to standards set by Pipe Band Associations. Students will choose their own goals and objectives, and the school's structure will provide a vessel for them to achieve those goals.

Community Environment

The school will be set up to promote a community atmosphere. Socializing with other musicians is essential for developing intuition and creativity.
